Active Cinema Review

Write for us

We welcome pitches that help readers notice how cinema works. Send proposals through the Contact page, with a clear subject and a distinct reason to look at it now or again.

What we welcome

Ideas may focus on a scene, a screen performance, an editing choice, a sound detail or a visual approach. We are especially interested in pieces that make one specific craft idea legible through a focused example, rather than attempting to cover an entire film or topic at once.

What makes a strong pitch

Tell us the central question, the film or scene you would use, the main point readers should take away and why you are well placed to write it. A useful pitch is concise and specific; it shows how the proposed piece differs from a general review or plot summary. Please note any relevant access or commercial relationship.

Sending a proposal

Use the Contact page and choose the editorial question option, then include your pitch in the message. A proposal is not a promise of publication. Please send original ideas and do not include confidential information or material you do not have permission to share.

Our point of view

A film rewards a closer look.

We slow down the viewing experience without turning it into a test. Attend to a few choices on screen, and the scene can open up in new ways.
